It does this in two ways - public authorities are obliged to publish certain information about their activities, and members of the public are entitled to request information from public authorities.

The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 - Provides a statutory right of access to environmental information held by UK public authorities.

The Data Protection Act 2018 - An Act to make provision for the regulation of the processing of information relating to individuals.
