Access to electricity is the percentage of population with access to electricity. These data are collected from industry, national surveys and international sources.
Disaggregations are also available for rural and urban areas from the data source, however, they are not displayed on this page due to 100% of people having access to electricity (headline figure) - this implies that 100% of people in rural areas and 100% of people in urban areas also have access to electricity.
The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Global Tracking Framework Report (2013) provides more details on the suggested methodology for tracking access to energy. Data follows the UN specification for this indicator. This indicator has been identified in collaboration with topic experts.
